Delighted to read the account of Richmond Road chapel where Wil Ifan (my grandfather) was the minister from 1917 to 1925. In one of his many articles in his ‘Here and There’ column in the Western Mail (‘From Crystal to Gazing’, 7 April 1953, p. 4), he recalled taking part with the Richmond Road choir in the earliest, or second earliest, broadcast of a religious service on Welsh radio. He described their visit to a ‘little studio more or less opposite the Castle gates’, where he was given various signals by engineers as he spoke into a large microphone, with the people who were at once his congregation and choir lined up behind him.
