Description

Wilfred Martin Thomas known as Martin. Son of William and Mary Jane Thomas. He is buried in Hook Gospel Mission. He enlisted in the RAF Volunteer reserve in MOD's Meteorological Department. In 1941 he volunteered as a pilot and was posted to 226.He flew a Mitchell Mark 2 bomber in Operation Crossbow (1943) bombing German V weapon sites 25th November 1943 and took part in a raid on the Atlantic Wall near Calais and the plane was hit by flak. They flew the stricken plane over the Channel but it crashed near Dover killing him and 3 crew November 25 1943
