St Dwynwen Church by Beatrice Cummings

Description

Located on Llanddwyn Island which is really a small peninsula, separated from the mainland only at the highest of tides. The church is named after St Dwynwen who retreated to the island in the early 5th century after an unhappy love affair. She became known as the patron saint of lovers and pilgrimages were made to her holy well on the island. The pilgirmages became so popular that the offerings left by them were sufficient to build a substantial chapel on the site of the original church during the 16th century
