Extract from League of Nations report on the presentation of the memorial

Description

Text taken from the Welsh League of Nations annual report 1924 (page 20)detailing the presentation of the memorial and oak chest to the women of America in Washington on February 20th

The 1923 Welsh Women’s Peace Petition, coordinated by the Welsh League of Nations Union, was signed by 390,296 women in a call for America to join and lead the League of Nations, to prevent the outbreak of another war in the aftermath of World War One.

In 1924, a delegation of Welsh women undertook a 'Welsh Women's Peace Tour' across America, meeting president Calvin Coolidge before travelling across the country, garnering support for the appeal. Stops along the way included Washington D.C., Chicago, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.

Annie Hughes Griffiths' diary provides great insight into the peace campaign and the contemporary internationalist women's movement.
