Yr Apel/ welsh womens peace petition of 1924
Description
The memorial binding shortly after rediscovery in 2014 by Martin Pollard
The 1923 Welsh Women’s Peace Petition, coordinated by the Welsh League of Nations Union, was signed by 390,296 women in a call for America to join and lead the League of Nations, to prevent the outbreak of another war in the aftermath of World War One.
In 1924, a delegation of Welsh women undertook a 'Welsh Women's Peace Tour' across America, presenting president Calvin Coolidge with the memorial before travelling across the country, garnering support for the appeal. Stops along the way included Washington D.C., Chicago, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.
