Cymru'n Cofio Wales Remembers Final WW100 Centenary Events, March 2020: photos from Senedd Exhibition of 1923 Women's Peace Petition from WCIA
The 1923 Welsh Women’s Peace Petition, coordinated by the Welsh League of Nations Union, was signed by 390,296 women in a call for America to join and lead the League of Nations, to prevent the outbreak of another war in the aftermath of World War One.
In 1924, a delegation of Welsh women undertook a 'Welsh Women's Peace Tour' across America, meeting president Calvin Coolidge before travelling across the country, garnering support for the appeal. Stops along the way included Washington D.C., Chicago, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.
Annie Hughes Griffiths' diary provides great insight into the peace campaign and the contemporary internationalist women's movement.
