Response from American Women to Women of Wales

Description

A response sent from the women of America to the women of Wales in 1925 detailing the response to the Women's peace petition, written by Mrs Carrie Chapman Catt.

The 1923 Welsh Women’s Peace Petition, coordinated by the Welsh League of Nations Union, was signed by 390,296 women in a call for America to join and lead the League of Nations, to prevent the outbreak of another war in the aftermath of World War One.

In 1924, a delegation of Welsh women undertook a 'Welsh Women's Peace Tour' across America, meeting president Calvin Coolidge before travelling across the country, garnering support for the appeal. Stops along the way included Washington D.C., Chicago, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.

Annie Hughes Griffiths' diary provides great insight into the peace campaign and the contemporary internationalist women's movement.
