Session 2/5: Robert Owen & Co-operation. Prof. Chris Williams - Questions, Responses + Discussion
Description
Questions and discussion were wide ranging. How would Owen have embraced the four-day working week and the capacity of the modern-day economy for human purposes? Why do we know so little of Robert Owen in Wales and did he make much of his Welshness? Did Owen realise what he was creating, or did he just get on with it? What was Owen’s influence on the emerging Co-operative Movement and radical streams of thought in Europe and beyond? Any Owen dimension applicable to energy co-operatives – and although unanswered the New Lanark Mills were clearly used hydro energy from the River Clyde?
