In September 1935 a 3-day Health Fair was held in Pontypool Town Hall, organised by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ('Mormons'). It was based on the health code (known as the Word of Wisdom) adopted by Church members, although it covered more general principles of healthy living. It is estimated that more than 2,500 people attended the event.
