This is a copy of an original photograph of British Army soldier Leslie Smart, dating from 1955 and it was taken in Kenya. Leslie served for seven years as an infantry soldier with the Gloucestershire regiment. He accompanied the 1st Battalion to Kenya, where they took part in actions against the insurrection by the group commonly known as the Mau Mau.
