Interview with Zahir Dharamshi on the Ismaili community in Cardiff
Description
The interview with Zahir Dharamshi, conducted by Farah Allibhai, reflects on the early days of the Ismaili community in Cardiff after their arrival as refugees in 1972. Initially, the community gathered in private homes for prayers and social events. As the community grew, they moved to a larger space at 28 The Parade. This location was not only important for religious functions but also served as a social hub for the Ismaili community and other refugee groups. The Parade's larger space allowed more people to gather, fostering a sense of cohesion. Ravi Mooneeram, a prominent community member, helped establish the space as a communal hub, benefiting not just the Ismailis but other immigrant communities as well. The community continued to grow, eventually moving to a permanent Jamatkhana.
