Description

This is an original photograph of Petty Officer John Roberts RN, holding a turtle that he saved in the Seychelles in March 1956. John was very pleased with his efforts to safely return this particular ancient creature safely back to sea. John was aboard HMS Loch Fada at the time, which had recently taken part in Operation Apollo, the plan to take the Greek Archbishop Makarious into exile on the Seychelle islands. The story of John's involvement along with interviews , photographs and material relating to his long naval career, can be viewed online in the John Roberts collection at the West Wales Veterans Archive on the Peoples collection Wales website
