Certificate of the Artic emblem

Description

This is a photograph of the certificate that is presented by HM Government to those servicemen and women who undertook service in the Artic Ocean during world war two. This particular certificate was awarded to Mr John Roberts. Former Chief Petty Officer John "Bob" Roberts joined the Navy in 1943 and served in the surface fleet and submarine service. During his career, he survived four convoys, from Scapa flow to Murmansk and several actions where Kriegsmarine warships were engaged. Following the war he went on to serve until 1967, ending his career at the Royal Navy historic dockyard. Interviews that were recorded with John, as well as photographs and related material, can be viewed online in the John Roberts collection at the West Wales Veterans Archive on the Peoples collection Wales website.
