Cassel Prize silver medal 1961

Description

This is a photograph of a special medal awarded to a Bandsman from 3rd Carabineers Prince of Wales Dragoon Guards band, John Biggs by the Worshipful company of Musicians London on 7th November 1961. The medal relates to the Cassel Prize. It was established in 1946 and endowed by Felix Cassel (Master 1939-1945), the Cassel prize comprises a Silver Medal and a Bronze Medal - which are awarded annually to the Schools of Music of all three Armed Services. John was awarded the Cassell prize for the Royal Military School of Music in 1961. He joined the British Army as a Musician in 1959 and served for six years.
