Narrative account of National Service in the Light Infantry in the 1950s relating to Roy Denzil Davies

Description

This material supports the work of the West Wales Veterans Archive National Service project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. This is a narrative account of the National service experience relating to Mr Roy 'Denzil' Davies of Golden Valley on the Welsh borders. Denzil, who is often seen in Hay on Wye, Powys, was called up to undertake National Service in 1956. He served a two-year engagement, the majority of which was undertaken on the island of Cyprus. The narrative relies heavily on an interview with Denzil, undertaken in 2025 by a Veterans Officer from Age Cymru Dyfed. Recordings of this interview can be heard in Denzil's full collection, which can be viewed online at the West Wales Veterans Archive in the National Service collection on the People’s Collection Wales website. *** Viewer discretion. In the interview, Denzil uses language and phrases that may offend.
