Frederick John Phelps was born 1 February 1897 in Permbroke. He served as a Driver in the Royal Field Artillery from 1916 to 1918 (Service number W/3613). The photograph shows Frederick standing just to the left of the nurses. He died in Maesteg on 22 February 1930.
