Description
This evocatively illustrated scroll was presented to D Llew Williams, MC, by his chapel in honour of his service with the Royal Army Medical Corps in the First World War. Note the variety of images, some of which could be interpreted as glorifying warfare although the word right at the bottom is 'heddwch' peace;. The inscription translates as:
For Freedom and Justice / Presented to Captain D Llew Williams M.C. (Royal Army Medical Corps) by the members of Crwys Road Church, Cardiff, in token of their admiration and gratitude for his willingness to sacrifice for his country; Whatever happens, the world will not trample on the acts of devoted youth; [a line from the poem Yr Arwr by Hedd Wyn].
