Deck Hand Ernest Jenkins

Description

Ernest Jenkins, was the son of Mr & Mrs William Jenkins of Clifton Terrace, Southend, Swansea, and was married to Maisie of Thistleboon House, Mumbles. He served as Deck Hand, DA/1675 Royal Navy, H.M. Trawler Thuringia, and was killed in action off Youghal, Ireland, ages 24, on 11 November 1917.
He is remembered with Honour of Plymouth Naval Memorial and on the Great War Rood Screen Memorial, All Saints' Church, Mumbles, Swansea. His parents lost two other sons in the war (one of whom was Alfred Jenkins) and also lost a son-in-law.
