2nd Lieutenant Thomas Green DCM

Description

Thomas Green, the husband of Kate Green, served as 2nd Lieutenant, D.C.M, in the 105 Siege Battery, of the Royal Garrison Artillery. He died of wounds, aged 29, on 28 October 1916, at Beaucourt, the Somme. He is buried at Beaucourt Military Cemetery, France and remembered with Honour on the Great War Road Screen Memorial, All Saints' Church, Mumbles, Swansea.
A contemporary report reads '22489 Sergeant T. Green is the holder of the Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded for conspicuous gallantry. He managed to save three men from a shell damaged hut that was under fire'. He was subsequently commissioned from the Ranks.
