Description

This photograph shows the view from the North West. The modern port of Mostyn was constructed upon an area of land reclaimed from the Dee estuary. Mostyn Quay saw a remarkable concentration of industry in one small area - there was a colliery, iron works, saw mill and oil works - all rail-served and with access to seaborne transport. Tipping on the foreshore of slag, colliery and other waste was still in progress in this 1934 view; over many years this created a large area reclaimed from the Dee estuary upon which the modern Port of Mostyn was constructed.
