The 'Cardiff City Battalion' (16th Battalion, Welsh Regiment) was raised in Cardiff in late 1914, trained in North Wales for the first eight months of 1915 and sailed for France in December 1915. The unit suffered horrendous losses in the Battle of Mametz Wood (July 1916). This badge belonged to Oscar Harmer.
