Dead manâs Penny of Sgt William Thomas John
Description
Sergeant William Thomas John from Llanelli served with the Welsh Regiment, and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for his bravery on 20 October 1918 during the Battle of the Selle. He died from his wounds on 4 November 1918, and is buried at Forest Communal Cemetery in Northern France. This is the commemorative bronze plaque, colloquially known as the 'Dead Man's Penny' which was received by his family.
