Sarah Hughes received this letter, written by one of her husband's comrades, Private J Pemberton. John James Hughes was serving in India with the 8th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, but was ill in the Victoria War Hospital, Bombay. This letter was written on 16 June 1916, but although it states that John was improving, he passed away on 30 June 1916.
