Rhyl is a seaside resort town in Flintshire situated on the coast at the mouth of the river Clwyd; its fine sands and good railway accessibility by towns such as Liverpool and Manchester made it a popular Victorian and Edwardian tourist destination. On 16 November 1923, a visit by the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) saw the town decorated with flags and bunting; in this view can be seen the Alexandra Hotel and the Croydon (Temperance?) Hotel, flanking the lower end of the High Street where crowds await the royal procession. A white car on the approach to the railway bridge carries what appears to be a St George's flag.
