Ivor Phillips of the Royal Naval Division
Description
Ivor James Phillips was born in Treboeth, Swansea, on 18 May 1895. He was a collier before the war but enlisted on 15 November 1915, joining the Royal Naval Division. (Men of the RND were in effect soldiers but were initially under Admiralty control and retained some of the customs of the Royal Navy). He fought on the Western Front, in the Howe and Anson Battalions. These photographs show Ivor in his sailor's garb and in a conventional 'army' uniform. Ivor is one of the 79 men commemorated on the Roll of Honour at Caersalem Newydd Baptist Chapel, Treboeth.
