Description

Aerial photograph showing Swansea Prison and Vetch Field, Swansea.
Swansea Prison was built in 1861.
The Vetch became the home ground of Swansea Town FC (later Swansea City FC) in 1912 having previously been an athletics field in use by Swansea Harriers Athletics Club. Prior to the construction of the football stadium the site featured a triangular concrete cycling track laid out by the Harriers. Closed in 2005 following the departure of Swansea City to the new Liberty Stadium, the Vetch stood empty awaiting redevelopment until 2011. Demolition work began on 23 February 2011. A photographic survey of the stadium was undertaken by RCAHMW in June 2005.
