Then & Now: Caernarfon
Description
Click on the image to enlarge and compare the two photographs taken in 1921 and 2009.
In both photographs the castle and its walls are prominent as they have been from Medieval times. Differences include the use of the waterfronts - in 1921 export of slate on steam and sailing ships was still a major part of the economy of the town. In 2009, pleasure boats reflect the economy of the 21st century - tourism.
Proposals for the regeneration of the Caernarfon waterfront, as a setting of the World Heritage Site of castle and town walls, are now being proposed.
