Description

Thomas Williams, born in Penmachno in 1886, was working as a tailor in Colwyn Bay when the First World War broke out. Tom enlisted in the Liverpool Scottish Regiment on 21 November 1915 and left for France on 9 April 1916. This postcard was sent to Tom's sister, Kate, in August 1916. The message reads 'Dear All, Received parcel and letter today Aug 17 which was most acceptable. We are going on rest for a short time after our great charge. Still feeling in the pink. Yours T Wms. Trusting that Jennie and Katie will enjoy their holiday. Give my kind regards to her mother'. An additional note in Welsh in different pencil, added later, says: "Ysgrifennais hwn cyn streifio fy nhroed." Translation: "I wrote this before straining my foot" This was probably the reason for being invalided to UK on 22 August 1916.
