The works of Excelsior Rope Works owned by British Ropes of Doncaster was situated off Western Avenue, Cardiff (I was a member of the brass band for some years). This photo is of the Dixon's Ropeworks which was situated off Penarth Road, Cardiff. The gasometers of the Grangetown Gasworks are on the left with the meanderings of the River Ely distant. The railway is that of the Taff Vale for coal transportation to Penarth Dock but later joined by the Barry Railway as Barry dock opened toward the end of the 19th century. Right distant is the former pumping station which is an antiques centre and well worth a visit. I trust this assists.
