Bute Town
Description
Located at the head of the Rhymney Valley, Bute Town, or New Town as it is named on the Census returns until 1871, provided good quality housing with gardens and stables away from the ironworks (smoke and dirt) for workers. The road layout is shown on the First Edition 1-inch OS map (which was surveyed on 1827) and the impressive design and layout is believed to have been inspired by Lowther Village near Penrith.
