Description

Drawing by Falcon Hildred
Bridges over Ogwen Falls, 2010
This bridge on the Holyhead Road through north Wales was built where the River Ogwen flows out of Llyn Ogwen in an impressive series of waterfalls. It was designed by Thomas Telford as part of his work on the London to Holyhead route in 1815 and is still in use today as part of the A5 through Snowdonia. The drawing shows the fragmentary remains of an earlier bridge, the arch of which was left by Telford underneath his own.
