The Plough Inn, Bridge Street, Denbigh
Description
The Plough, Bridge Street has its early-sixteenth-century, two-storey, three-bay timber-framed cross-wing gable-end on to the street, and is now stone walled. A stone-built range of six bays extends to the rear, and was dendro-dated from a roof purlin to 1546-82. It has remnants of a first-floor, projecting lateral chimney indicating a great chamber. At right angles to the cross-wing, set back slightly, is a two-bay part with wide cross-passage, which may have been part of a former open hall, now partly destroyed.
Internally the cross-wing has an unusual, deeply moulded and stopped ceiling-beam, and at the first floor has chamfered and curved down braces to the tie beam and principal post. The trusses have raking struts and wind braces similar to those over the cross-passage.
