Swansea Borough Police Fire Brigade
Description
An extremely rare fireman's helmet badge of the Swansea Borough Police Fire Brigade, dating from the 1880's. The 'Fire Brigade' was an integral part of the Swansea Borough Police from its beginnings in the early 19th century and up until 1941. As with many other city's and boroughs across the UK of the time, the firemen were actually policemen. In the beginnings they were ordinary Constable's who walked their beats as policemen, and attended fires as and when they were required. Later, even though still policemen, their duties became more confined to that of what we would recognise as firemen. A two part badge. Brass 'Flaming Grenade' badge with a solid silver Borough coat of arms badge fixed in place by a small central nut and bolt. Part of my collection www.britishpolicehelmet.co.uk
