Description

Ingredients

a thick slice of bread
one or two eggs
half a pint of milk
a little nutmeg, ginger and sugar


Method 1

Break the bread into a saucepan, whisk the eggs and pour over the bread together with the milk.
Add the nutmeg, ginger and sugar to taste.
Heat the mixture over a low flame but do not boil.
Alternatively put the mixture in a dish and bake in a moderately hot oven.

Method 2

Heat the milk in a saucepan but do not boil.
Break the bread into a bowl, and pour the eggs, well beaten, and the hot milk over it.
Add sugar or salt, to taste.
Cover the bowl with a plate and leave to stand for a few minutes before serving.
