A collection of letters from James Whelan to his wife Annie, written during his his imprisonment. The letters are sent variously from Richmond Barracks, Stafford Detention Barracks and Frongoch Internment Camp and describe his life in prison. James Whelan owned a publishing company in Dublin and was also a tobacconist. Though he had no direct involvement in the 1916 Rising, he was arrested and interned because of material he had published for Patrick Pearse.
