Description

Medal presented to John J. O'Neill, one of the founding members and a general secretary of the the Irish Transport and General Workers Union. Presented by the Dublin District Council for his service rendered. He was one of three trustees to the deeds of Liberty Hall. O'Neill took part in the Rising, involved in the fighting at both Liberty Hall and the GPO. After the Rising he was interned in Frongoch. John O'Neill's death on January 3rd, 1958 took place at the same time as a gravediggers' strike, however this was temporarily lifted for his funeral, given his status within the union. Medal manufactured by Hopkins and Hopkins, Dublin.Seo bonn a bronnadh ar John J. O'Neill, duine de bhunaitheoirí Cheardchumann Iompair agus Ilsaothair na hÉireann, agus ardrúnaí de chuid an Cheardchumainn sin. Is í Comhairle Ceantair Bhaile Átha Cliath a bhronn an bonn air as ucht gach a rinne sé. Bhí sé ar dhuine de thriúr iontaobhaithe na bpáipéar gníomhais a bhain le Halla na Saoirse. Bhí An Niallach páirteach san Éirí Amach, agus bhí láimh aige sa troid i Halla na Saoirse agus in Ard-Oifig an Phoist araon. Cuireadh go Frongoch é tar éis an Éirí Amach.Nuair a fuair An Niallach bás ar an 3ú Eanáir 1958, ní raibh uaigh ar bith á déanamh de bharr stailce, ach ó tharla an stadas ard a bhí aige sa gCeardchumann, fógraíodh sos stailce ionas go bhféadfaí é a chur.
