Bargod Rangers Hockey Team, c.1897 Tivyside match reports are available in 1898. This is probably the first use of the name Bargod Rangers. Featured in the photo is Esau Evans (3rd from the left, back row) of Goetre Uchaf, Felindre. Esau was a well known local athlete winning competitions at sporting events at Llysnewydd and beyond. Richard Jones, his grandson, owns a bookcase presented to Esau by Captain Lewes of Llysnewydd to recognise his sporting achievements. He reached the age of 100 in 1970 when the children of Penboyr School held a party in his honour.
