T9114 on Angle Airfield
Description
Sunderland T9114 of 461 sqdn Pembroke Dock after a rescue mission to pick up a downed Whitley crew in the bay of Biscay. The rescued crew were transfered to a Free French destroyer. May 29, 1943, the Sunderland took off, but struck a large wave which tore a hole in its hull. So unable to land at P.D. a landing (without wheels) by pilot Gordon Singleton at RAF Angle was succesfully conducted with no loss of life.
