T9114 on Angle Airfield

Description

Sunderland T9114 of 461 sqdn Pembroke Dock after a rescue mission to pick up a downed Whitley crew in the bay of Biscay. The rescued crew were transfered to a Free French destroyer. May 29, 1943, the Sunderland took off, but struck a large wave which tore a hole in its hull. So unable to land at P.D. a landing (without wheels) by pilot Gordon Singleton at RAF Angle was succesfully conducted with no loss of life. The entire mission is recounted in Gordon's book "Singletons War" available from Kindle.
