New centre planned
A COMMUNITY resources centre may be opened in Splott, Cardiff, aimed at providing a focal point for residents’ activities there.
The project is the brainchild of Cardiff Student Community Action who are applying for an Urban Aid grant.
It was an idea from CSCA that set up the flourishing Adamsdown Community and Advice Centre, and if the Urban Aid application is successful it is hoped the Splott Resources Centre will be in a shop in Carlisle Street.
“The centre will make available to the community information and advice on a wide range of subjects and will provide practical support in terms of resources, manpower and meeting rooms,” said Sue Finch, CSCA organiser.
“We carried out a survey among local residents which indicated 100 per cent. support for the scheme. CSCA were mandated to submit the application for a grant on behalf of the local community at a recent public meeting,” she said.
The organisers say that to finance the project around £35,000 will be needed over the next five years. The centre would be staffed by a community organiser and a secretary and managed by a group of local residents.
