Description

A scrapbook created by Llandough Women's Institute's featuring images of a Medieval Banquet at Cardiff Castle. The banquet was organised by Llandough Women's Institute; a picture from the event shows members around a banquet table.

The scrapbook was compiled in response to an invite by the Glamorgan Federation of Women's Institute's Environment and Agriculture sub-committee "to produce a scrapbook for European Year of the Environment". The title of the project was 'Fifty Years of Farming or Land Use in your Locality, 1937-1987'.

Llandough Women's Institute was formed in 1949 and suspended in June 2010. It was a member of the South East (later Bro Hafren) Group within the Glamorgan Federation of Women's Institutes. Originally set up to provide training and education, the Women's Institute has since developed into a mutual support structure for women, as well as an important lobbying voice. Individual branches are self-governing and are grouped into County Federations which together make up the National Federation of Women's Institutes. The Glamorgan Federation was established in 1923. Today, the Women's Institute has links with over 8 million women in some 60 countries.
