Description

Group photograph of men and women members of St John Ambulance in uniform with a [competition] shield.

In 1887, the St John Ambulance Brigade was formed, the aim of which was to provide first aid and ambulance transport at public events. The St John Ambulance Brigade in Wales is now a voluntary organisation which relies on the public and the local business community for its funding and in return, provides the service for which it is famous. While some members of St John's Ambulance Brigade were conscripted and paid, a lot of the members were voluntary workers.
