Windsor Great Park, St John Ambulance Camp, attended by the Cardiff Brigade and Red Cross members, view of camp showing informal groups of uniformed women outside tents.

In 1887, the St John Ambulance Brigade was formed, the aim of which was to provide a service of first aid and ambulance transport at public events. The St John Ambulance Brigade in Wales is now a voluntary organisation which relies on the public and the local business community for its funding and in return, provides the service for which it is famous. While some members of St John's Ambulance Brigade were conscripted and paid, a lot of the members were voluntary workers.
