Paper Serviette printed with a copy of the Souvenir and Official Programme of The Visit of their Gracious Majesties to Wales, 20 July 1904

Description

Edward VII and Queen Alexandra visited Swansea to cut the first sod for the construction of the Swansea New King's Dock. The programme reads: 'His Majesty will start the steam navvy, and the first sod will be deposited in a waggon', a steam navvy being an early steam-powered excavator. The Royal couple then went on to Rhayader the following day to open the Elan Valley Resevoir.
