Description
David Ambrose sings the traditional Gower Wassail in acapella as passed on by Gower resident Phil 'The Gower Nightingale' Tanner in early 20th Century Gower. The images in the digital story were taken at the Gower Wassail which was held in the orchard at Gower Heritage Centre (SA3 2EH) on 24 January 2017. It was the first Wassail that Gower Heritage Centre had organised, inspired by the long tradition of Wassailing and the Mari Lwyd in Gower.
David Ambrose is a renowned storyteller and the Artistic Director of Beyond The Border Festival, a celebration of the world's oral traditions exploring the retelling of traditional stories for a contemporary audience. Beyond the Border is held bi-annually at St Donat’s Castle in The Vale of Glamorgan. CF61 1WF.
This digital story was created for ‘The Heritage of Orchards and Cider Making in Wales’, a two year HLF funded project in partnership with The George Ewart Evans Centre For Storytelling at The University of South Wales and The Welsh Cider and Perry Society.
This story recorded with David Ambrose and edited by Project Associate Catrin James on the 20th of June 2017 at The Atrium, University of South Wales, Cardiff, CF24 2FN.
