A Zulu Shield, 1879

Description

Zulu shield of red and white hide Umbumbuluso 122 cms in height with bullet hole close to central panel inscription on back. It was recovered after the Zulu attack at the mission station at Rorke's Drift on 22 January 1879. It was brought back to Wales by Lieutenant Colonel William Dunbar of the 24th Regiment, South Wales Borderers.
