D Leslie Phillips, the Club's first ever President
Description
David Leslie Phillips. Such was his contribution to the Club, that, in 1991, it was decided to rename the Club’s grounds in his honour to Caeau Les Phillips. He was recognised for his unstinting commitment, dedication, organisational and management skills, and his immense fund raising efforts during the 1980s, a time in which the Club was in desperate need of additional monies. Les was a proud son of Cwm Ffrwd, near Carmarthen and played first class rugby for Llanelli and Waterloo, who, at that time were one of the premier clubs in England. His fondest rugby memory was playing in the Royal Artillery team, which included numerous rugby internationals and on 28th October 1944 beat the touring New Zealand team in Cairo by 5-3, the only defeat endured by the All Blacks during the tour.
