Geraint Davies

Television came to this guest's home a lot later than his contemporaries got television sets because of his father's refusal to buy a set. Because of this he felt different to his friends. He discusses the Devolution campaign of 1979 and the Neil Kinnock's effect on the vote, and speaks about the results night in 97. He remembers rushing down to Cardiff with cars tooting their horns on the way, and he remembers the next day when Clayton Jones, a Pontypridd bus company owner, allowed everyone to travel for free on his buses to celebrate the victory. As he discusses the Miners' Strike he says that television at the time supported the right to work and they were not supportive of the right to withdraw labour. He tremembers being on the picket line, even though he himself was not a miner, and remembers the day the miners went back to Maerdy. He talks of a meeting following the strike where he was invited to speak; but there was nothing to say. The battle had been lost. He believes the strike would not have happened if Wales was an independent country.
