Hensol Castle: Hidden Now Heard
Hensol Castle Hospital opened in 1930 and closed in 2003. The hospital was built to provide a home for people with a learning disability under the provisions of the 1913 Mental Deficiency Act. The site is situated in the Vale of Glamorgan. Patients were housed in one of 12 wards and at its busiest the hospital was home to over 800 patients with a range of support needs. The former wards are now private apartments and the castle now a wedding venue.
