Description
Llanelli Community Heritage installed this commemorative plaque for the Island Place Meeting House, originally constructed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1849, latterly the property of Elim Pentecostal Church. The building was demolished as part of a road widening scheme in the 1990s, but was the first purpose-built 'Mormonite' chapel in Wales. It was dedicated by missionary Dan Jones in January 1849, and fell into disuse by the Latter Day Saints as many local members emigrated to America.
