In late 1918 Zoar chapel, Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil, sent letters and a gift of £1 to all of its members that were serving in the Armed Forces. This letter of thanks was written from France to the chapel by J Evans on 27 November 1918. He quotes from a hymn by Ieuan Glan Geirionydd - 'Dihangol ydwyf hyd yn hyn: Fy Nhad sydd wrth y llyw' - 'I am safe so far: my Father is at the helm'.
